I made a lot of progress early in the year as far as the structure of the story, but hit a wall on how I wanted to present the personal aspects of this story. I didn't want it to read like a history lesson. When I was in Philly I met up with an old friend from high school who's a copywriter now, a really talented guy, and as I was talking to him about it, he kept asking me pointed questions about what drew ME to this story, and he really helped me find my voice for telling the story, focusing in on the strength of personal beliefs, not just faith, but beliefs in yourself, in others, as well in religion, and what the strength of those beliefs could drive people to do. I'm ending up with a story that's pulled in close to a personal level with the Crusaders, which I think gives it more of an emotional impact. Since I've gotten back, it's been writing itself. I'm hoping to have the first book completely finished in a couple of months.
